Pilates is amazing for alleviating back pain. Lower back pain is so common in the majority of cases the back needs movement in order to reduce pain. Lumbar spine pain can be greatly improved with Pilates. Anyone who sits for long periods can suffer back pain or stiffness. My clients often comment on how they feel like they have had a massage when they finish a session. I think this is the relief felt in the thoracic area and of the scapula. We often hold ourselves flexed over a desk all day so when we do Pilates this relieves tension in the upper back neck and shoulder area.
